CDC Reports MMWR Surveillance Summaries : Cryptosporidiosis Surveillance and Giardiasis Surveillance
Derek Chambers presented the recently released report from the CDC about Cryptosporidiosis and Giardiasis incidents in the United States from 2011 - 2012.  Most cases occur in the summer months and are related to recreational swimming.

Model Aquatic Health Code

Since most incidents of Crypto and Giardi in the U.S. are related to recreational swimming, and many of the water operators in the CNMI work at hotels/resorts and also maintain swimming pools, Derek Chambers presented information about The Model Aquatic Health Code, a non-enforceable evidence based national standard for construction and operation and maintenance of swimming pools.  For more information on the Model Aquatic Health Code visit http://www.cdc.gov.healthywaters/swimming/pools/mahc/index.html

Revised Total Coliform Rule

Derek Chambers provided a quick update on DEQ's efforts to adopt the Revised Total Coliform Rule.
Main Event:
Assessment of Maui I & IV Shaft Wells on Saipan

Yvonne Cabrera presented on the assessments that CUC conducted of the Maui I and Maui IV shaft wells on Saipan.  These wells are about 6 feet in diameter and over 100 feet deep and have 3 foot diameter tunnels that radiate out at the bottom to collect fresh water off the surface of the aquifer located at sea level.

Mapping Nitrate Concentrations in Groundwater in the CNMI

LCDR Brian Bearden gave a presentation on how maps on nitrate concentration in the groundwater of Saipan was generated.
Main Event:
Typhoon Maysak Damage Assessment

On March 29, 2015 typhoon Maysak passed over the Chuuk atoll and went on to strike Ulithi and Yap atolls.  Derek Chambers traveled to Chuuk on April 8 as part of team from USAID and FEMA to perform a preliminary damage assessment.  Derek and the team travelled to nearly every island in the atoll over the next few days,  Derek gave a presentation on his experience in Chuuk
